Dec. 11: Ran our last open boat trip for the season on probably the nicest weather day so far this month. Had Joe (Tuna Tales), Steve (Socks), Brian and Gerard on board. Made a few drops between 45 and 80 feet. Managed a good pick all day long, boxing our limit to Joe's personal best 10.5 lb beauty. Had another 4 fish between 8 and 9 lbs. Fish hit both green crabs and whiteleggers. I would like to thank everyone for a great season, and wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. We will start sailing again the beginning of April for stripers as well as ling and blackfish. Dec 4: Ran our open boat blackfish trip today. Made our way down the beach with the stiff nw wind. The strong wind made it tough to feel the bites, but the 4 man crew toughed it out and managed to box 18 keepers to 8 lbs along with a bunch of shorts. Fish came on both whiteleggers and green crabs. Dec 3: Was able to sneak out today for a few hours of blackfishing. Making three drops, we were able to box our 5 man limit up to 10 lbs with several 5 to 7 lb fish making there way into the box. Fish hit both whiteleggers and green crabs. Nov. 29: Andy Compton and friends were onboard this morning for blackfishing. Fished a few different areas and was never really able to build a steady bite. The crew managed to pick away all day landing 22 keepers to 6 lbs along with 5 ling. Fish hit both whiteleggers and green crabs.
Nov. 28: Ran our open boat blackfish trip. Fished deeper water today and had good action with most of the keeper between 3 and 5 lbs. Largest fish of the day topped out at 8 lbs. By days end we tallied our 5 man limit releasing a bunch of shorts and 2 additional keepers. Fish ate both green and whitelegger crabs. Nov. 22: Mike Mendiburu and his daughter Lea were out for a day off bass and tog fishing. Started the day jigging and trolling 3 keeper bass to 17 lbs along with 10 shorts. Once the action slowed, we headed to the tog grounds. As soon as the anchors came tight the two of them managed to land 15 keeper tog to 7 lbs. The blackfish hit both green and whiteleggers. Nov. 21: Had the Mark Manhart charter out today for a combo bass/ tog trip. Started the day trying to jig some bass. Landed 3 keepers and about a dozen shorts. Definately didn't catch what we read on the scope. A brief attempt at trolling added another keeper and a few bluefish. Ran down the beach and made 4 drops for the blackfish. Landed 11 keepers to 5 lbs and way to many shorts. Fished anywhere from 45 to 65 ft. Both green crabs and whiteleggers provided the action. Nov. 19: Ran our open boat trip today and the plan was to do some bass fishing first then head to the tog grounds. Once we got between the channels, we found the bass stacked. Jigging avas on the bottom produced 9 keeper bass to 15 lbs along with 20 shorts. Once the action slowed we headed down the beach and set up for blackfishing. We had a steady pick for the rest of the day where we boated 25 keepers to 6 lbs along with alot of shorts. Green crabs and whiteleggers both produced. Nov. 16: Kevin Meyerhofer and friends were out today for some blackfishing. It started slow with just a pick everywhere we went. We finally were able to build up the life and the guys managed a 5 man limit to 8.5 lbs along with a few more keepers and a bunch of shorts which were released. Nov. 14: Had the Andy Compton charter out this morning bass fishing. We went to where we caught them the night before. Action started off slow, but once the tide slowed down, the charter was able to bring 67 fish to the boat with 8 going in the box. Biggest fish went about 13 lbs and all fish were caught on clams. Nov. 13: Our open boat trip this morning saw up and down action. The crew managed to land 3 keeper bass to 32" along with a bunch of shorts on jigs and clams.
This afternoons open boat trip saw fast action until the sun went down, with the four man crew landing 53 stripers with 5 fish making their way into the cooler. Once the sun went down, we made a few drifts with eels but had no takers. Oct. 30: We had the Mark Kulick charter out this morning for bass fishing. Despite the windy conditions the guys managed to box 6 keeper bass to 16 lbs along with half a dozen shorts. Oct. 28: The Andy Compton charter was out this monring for some striper fishing. Drifitng eels this was very slow as we only had one bite. Took a little ride and found the fish stacked up. The charter managed to boat their 10 fish limit plus an additional bonus fish to 20 lbs, while releasing another 40 shorts. Oct. 24: Sunday mornings open boat trip managed to boat 3 keeper bass on eels. We read fish everywhere we went, but could not manage to get the bites. Oct. 23: Had the Ed Kachinski charter out for bass fishing. With the wind blowing harder than expected, we set out the trolling gear and was able to put 2 keeper bass, a dozen shorts and some bluefish in the boat in some tough conditions. Oct. 17: Open boat trip. Ran down the beach at first light. Once on the grounds, we had plenty of bird life and solid bait readings. Managed to jig one keeper bass, some bluefish along with some jumbo porgies. Made a run up to the north and put out the trolling gear. Had nice readings and again managed to put another keeper bass and some cocktail blues in the boat. With the last of the outgoing we tried to drift eels, but the current and wind were to much with 20 ounces unable to hold bottom. Oct. 11: Had the Bob Milkovitz charter out this morning. Plan was to try for some stripers then go bottom fishing. Several drifts produced 4 keeper bass and 1 short on eels. Once we got set up on the bottom grounds it was non stop action with porgies, sea bass, and blackfish. By the end of the day the charter boxed 4 keeper stripers, 20 sea bass, 80 porgies, and over 20 blackfish only keeping our 1 fish per man limit. Oct. 10: Had Steve Kimble and his 10 year old nephew John out this mornng for some bass and bottom fishing. Started off drifting eels and landed 2 keepers to 32" within a few drifts. Ran down the beach to give clamming a try and was only able to manage 1 short bass. Off to the bottom fish grounds we went and were able to pick away at porgies, sea bass and a few blackfish to finish off the day. Oct. 9: Ran our open boat trip this morning with Brian and Gerard on board. Made a few quick drifts first thing with the eels and landed 2 nice bass to 33". Once the sun came up we shot down to the clam beds and picked away another 2 keepers along with 15 shorts. Oct. 8: Headed out this morning on our open boat trip. Stopped at the clam grounds and had a slow pick of shorts with one keeper. Once we got the outgoing, we took a ride to where we had the bigger fish on bunker the other day, but no one was home. Ran back to the clam grounds for one more fish then headed home. Slow day of fishing, but a nice day on the water. Oct. 6: Headed out this morning with a different plan in mind since clams were hard to get. We were loaded with eels and wanted to see if we could get some fresh bunker. After a little time, we were able to net enough bunker for the day. Headed out and got the anchor set for the outgoing tide. In 4 hours the 3 man crew landed 7 keeper bass up to 23 lbs along with several blues. A lot of fish were missed as the current was screaming out and more than 10 ounces was needed to hold bottom. Sept. 24: Set out today on our open boat bottom fishing trip. Several drops on the reef produced a steady pick of porgies, a few sea bass, and a couple short tog. By days end the crew boated 135 porgies, 8 keeper sea bass, and a trigger fish. Sept. 11: Ran an open boat bottom fish trip today. Making several drops on some rubble on the reef, the crew managed to pick away all day on sea bass, porgies and blackfish. Total for the day was 30 keeper sea bass to 3 lbs, 29 porgies and our lmit of blackfish to 5 lbs. We also had numerous short sea bass and many small blackfish throughout the day. August 29: We had the Bob Milkovitz charter out for sea bass fishing. Drifting some hard bottom, the charter boxed up 67 keeper sea bass to 3 lbs. August 28:Ran our open boat fluke trip. Tough conditions in Ambrose and on the rough bottom made for a very tough day, only boating 2 keeper fluke and 10 sea bass. August 27: Had out the Paul Rubbe charter and experienced good bottom fishing. Several drops produced a pick of ling, sea bass, porgies, and our limit of tog. August 8: Ran our open boat fluke trip. The plan was to head right to where we left them yesterday. Once we got to the grounds we realized it wouldn't happen there since there was no drift. Made the run back inshore to the channels. Drifting the deep, we were able to box 12 keepers to 6 lbs on bucktails. August 7: Had the Cory Hutting charter out for the Leonardo Flukemasters tournament this morning. Fishing bucktails and large strip baits on some offshore lumps provided the crew with steady action all day. Final tally for the day was 23 keepers to 7.7 lbs. We were able to place 1st in the tournament with a combinded weight of 5 fish for 31.04 lbs. Congrats to the crew of John, John Jr., Paul, Drew, and Cory for putting in alot of work and effort for the fish they caught and making them count. August 1: Ran our open boat fluke trip this morning. Took a few drifts to get dialed in, but had a nice pick of fish on bucktails, and strip baits. Fished the rough bottom and ambrose channel on the way in. Total for the day was 17 keeper fluke to 8 lbs and a few sea bass. July 31: Had the Eric Baeri charter out this morning for some bottom fishing. Drifting around structure for the day produced non stop action with sea bass and some ling. Only problem was most of the sea bass were short. Ended the day keeping 38 sea bass and 6 ling up to 3 lbs. July 29: Had the Scott Gallion charter out this morning for some fluke fishing. Unfortunately, we did not see the fishing that we have had, due to lack of drift. Bouncing around on the rough bottom and in the channels produced a slow pick of 7 keeper fluke to 8 lbs. The guys dragged large strip baits and bounced bucktails all day. Hopefully things will get back to normal over the weekend. July 27: Had out John Murray and his wife Jamie this morning for some fluke fishing. Bouncing bucktails and drifting large strip baits on the rough bottom, the crew was able to put 8 keeper fluke in the boat up to 8 lbs.
July 24 & 25: We were able to get out both days this weekend on our open boat fluke trips. Saturday was a beautiful day to be on the water to escape the heat. Bouncing bucktails and large strip baits on the rough bottom produced 18 keeper fluke to 6.10 lbs. Sunday was an almost identical day. Setting up where we left, the crew managed to pick away through out the day boating 18 keeper fluke to 8.5 lbs on bucktails and strip bait. We saw better quality fish as we had 9 fish that were 4 lbs or better. July 20: Had the Ted Metzker charter aboard this morning for some fluke fishing. Headed right out to the rough bottom. Bouncing bucktails and drifting large strip baits the 4 man charter fell one fish short of a limit. The crew landed 23 keepers to 6 lbs with around 12 of those fish averaging 3 to 4 lbs. We also had a few sea bass to 3 lbs mixed in with the fluke. July 10 & 11: Fished the Sandy Hook Bay Anglers tournament this weekend. Decided that we would fish the rougher deeper water looking for that one fish. Saturday was a beautiful day with light winds and cloud cover. We had the right conditions where we were, with the six man crew managing to put 28 keepers in the boat to 8.6 lbs. The fish were all caught on bucktails with stripbaits. Made the run to the weight scale and tied the first place weight, putting us in second place. Left Sunday morning and planned on fishing the same general area as we knew there were good fish there. A big se groundswell and lousy conditions made for a tough day. Bouncing around on different areas of hard bottom, the 6 man crew was able to put 16 keepers to 5 lbs in the box. Unfortunately we were unable to find a bigger fish but still had a good time. Congrats to Dennis Napela for taking first in the tournament and thanks again to Sandy Hook Bay Anglers for running another great event. July 6: Had the Gary Faultz charter out this morning. Decided to take a shot at bass and then go fluking afterwards and it was a good choice. As soon as we got to where we had been fishing the past weeks and got our baits in the water, it was non stop. The 4 man group tallied 13 keeper bass, keeping there 8 fish limit up to 32 lbs and releasing the rest. We had a few blues mixed in as well. Once we started to lose the tide, we went fluking . After a slow couple of drifts, the charter wanted to head home and escape the heat. July 2: The Paul Rubbe charter returned today for another great day of fishing. Started off bass fishing. Drifting live bunker we put 5 bass in the boat really quick. Decided to try anchoring and drawing the fish to us and boy did it work. Within 45 minutes we boated another 15 fish up to 30 lbs., keeping only our limit plus one bonus fish. All the bigger fish swimming away to fight another day. The bite died and we made a run to try some bucktailing. In a few hours, we put 9 keeper fluke to 9 lbs in the boat plus a few sea bass and released a bunch of shorts. A beautiful day on the water with good friends and the fishing couldn't have been any better. July 1: Had the Paul Rubbe charter this morning. Heading to the same area we have been fishing, it didn't take long to find them. Within a few drifts we had our 6 fish limit of stripers to 32 lbs. Made a few drifts in the bay for fluke with the bucktails and managed one keeper fluke around 3.5 lbsand a many shorts. June 30: Had the Thad Strang charter out this morning. We were able to make bait easily in a hard north wind. Ran out to where the bass bite has been. It took a few drifts, but we were able to find them and pick away every drift. When the action slowed, we dropped the hook and began chunking and had a steady 1 fish on for a bit of time. Tally for the day was 15 bass to 23 lbs only keeping our limit of 6 for the table. June 27: Our open boat fluke/bottom trip had good action on the bottom grounds with ling, sea bass, cod, and blackfish (all blackfish released). Made several drops and found good life on all of them. Made a few drifts for fluke on the way in and added 2 keepers to 22" to the cooler. June 26: Ran our open boat fluke trip. Looked like it was going to be a good day when the first fish in the boat was a nice 4 lber. Wrong. Lost the drift and pretty much floated in circles for the rest of the day. The group worked hard all day and boxed up half a dozen keeper fluke to 5 lbs on bucktails as well as half a dozen sea bass. June 25: Had the Brad Davis charter aboard for some striper fishing. The charter quickly limited out with fish to 36 lbs. Total for the day was 11 keeper bass, 6 fish were kept for the table and the rest were released. June 24: Had the Pete Romer charter out. Was able to make bait easy and fished very local this morning. Found the readings we were looking for and as soon as baits hit the bottom it was game on. The charter limited out on the first drift and then played catch and release for the rest of the morning. Total for the day was 21 keeper bass to 24 lbs. June 22: Had the Marty Noll charter out this afternoon. Found some readings close to home for a change. Drifting live and dead bunker produced 5 keeper bass to 29 lbs along with plenty of bluefish. Made it in just before the storm started.
June 20: Ran our open boat striper trip this morning. Started out down the beach anchoring on some structure. Unfortunately it was a tough day with the stripers, so we switched over to bucktails. Fishing hard bottom for 2 hours produced 5 keeper fluke to 4.5 lbs along with a few keeper sea bass.
June 19: Had the Chris Ryan charter aboard this morning. Made bait and started down the beach. Was greated by the weekend crowd and knew it was going to be tough. Unfortunately the charter was unable to land any bass and only landed several bluefish.
Ran our open boat trip this afternoon. Headed south again in some tough conditions. Made bait a little south of the rocks and headed off to where we had the fish the night before. Found a few marks and set up on the drift. Read alot of fish, but could not manage a bite. Headed inshore and found them crashing schools. The guys managed to go 2 for 4 with fish to 30 lbs before some boats ran right through the schools and put the fish down.
June 18: Ran our open striper strip this morning. Fishing was slow overall with the group only boating 2 keeper bass to 20 lbs along with several bluefish.
The afternoon trip with the Jeff Dinger charter was a completely different story. Made some bait down the beach. Stopping on some readings, the charter had a few bass blowups and some bluefish bites. A short ride south put the charter into non stop action with all bass. They ate live bunker, dead bunker, swimming plugs and popping plugs. The group managed to land 16 bass to 45 lbs only keeping 5 for the table. Jeff's sons at age 11 managed to land fish of a lifetime at 45 and 42 lbs. June 17: Had the Steve Soos charter aboard this morning for some striper fishing. Was able to make bait on the outside today and ran down the beach to fish some bunker pods. The hard NW wind made the drift to fast to stay with the bunker schools. Anchoring on some structure the charter managed to box 3 bass to 20 lbs while missing several other bites in tough conditions. June 15: Had the Nate Attanasio party aboard this morning. Ran down the beach looking to get in on some live line action, but after covering many miles realized it was not meant to be. Set up on the chunk and the charter was able to land 4 keeper bass to 25 lbs. June 14: Had the Bob Milkovitzcharter out this morning. Ran across some fish on the way to the grounds. Dropping live bunker to the bottom got consistent hook ups. The charter limited out with 10 fish to 32 lbs, while releasing another 5 keepers.
This afternoon, the Ken Maimone charter was aboard. Setting up on a small piece, the charter limited out 8 bass to 30 lbs while releasing another 10 keepers. All fish in the afternoon were caught on bunker chunks. June 13: Had the Nick Pourchinski charter out this afternoon. Headed out in a different direction after a report from a friend. Once we got the anchor in, it took about 2 minutes to get them going. The charter limited out with 10 stripers in an hour and half then played catch and release with another 13 bass. Biggest fish of the night weighed 29 lbs. June 12: Had the Paul Rubbe charter aboard this morning and took a break from the bass fishing to hit the bottom grounds. Several drops produced a pick of sea bass, ling, cod and blackfish. At the end of the day, the charter boxed 54 keeper sea bass to 3 lbs, 28 ling, a keeper cod and over 25 blackfish to 6 lbs which were releases. June 11: Had the Anne Riley charter aboard this morning. Found some bait locally and headed down the beach. Had a slow day chunking only landing 3 stripers to 15 lbs along with a few dropped fish. No pics today as the the camera was dead. June 10: Had the Mark Kulick party aboard this afternoon. Ran down the beach and made bait quickly. Ran into some bunker schools and it was on. Landed our limit of 8 fish on live bunker to 30 lbs, while releasing another fish. Rode out a quick storm then went searching again. Lost the bunker, but found some good readings and set up on the chunk. The charter managed to boat another 4 bass to 40 lbs. June 9: Had the Steve Kimball charter aboard this morning. Ran down the beach and ran into huge bunker schools. As soon as the baits hit the water we picked away all morning. The charter was able to land stripers to 32 lbs. Did see a few larger bass in the 40 lb class come up and smash our baits, but were unable to hook them. June 8: Had the Mike Dunn charter out this afternoon. Left the dock and made our bait. Headed right down the beach and found some readings. Once we got the anchor set it took all of 5 minutes to get them going. The charter limited out with 10 keeper stripers to 23 lbs while releasing another 8 keeper bass. Only one bluefish was caught throughout the afternoon. June 7: Had the Jason Vicchariello charter aboard this morning. With the hard NW wind decided to take a ride down the beach. Located schools of bunker right away and made bait quickly. Took a short ride and found a body of bass that was crushing baits on the surface. The only problem was, that they would knock the baits around and not eat. Made a short ride to a small snag where the charter went 2 for 5 on stripers to 15 lbs. Slow day overall, but a beautiful day on the water. June 6: Had the Paul Wint charter aboard this morning. Made bait quickly, but it took several moves to get the bite going. Once we found some fish that wanted to eat, the charter picked away at 4 keeper bass to 30 lbs. June 5: Had the Mark Cuglarri charter aboard this morning. Once on the grounds it didnt take long to get the bass going. The charter boated 5 keepers and many bluefish. Got a call from a friend who was catching some bigger fish on bunker pods so we pulled the anchor and off we went. Once we got to the bunker schools, we boated another 3 keepers to 25 lbs while missing several other fish as they were just bumping the baits.
In the afternoon we had the Scott Yandle party aboard. Went to where we started the morning off and read the fish good, but wind against tide made made for terrible conditions.The group was able to land 1 bass to 15 lbs and loads of bluefish.
June 4: Had the Joe Soter charter out this afternoon. Made the bait and took a ride down the beach. Came across a few schools of bunker started drifting. The charter was able to land 2 bass out of 10 bites with the bigger fish going 35 lbs. May 30: Ran out open boat trip this morning. Was able to make bait pretty quick and got set up on some good readings. Caught one keeper right away and thought we were set, but it was not the case. Took a short ride got reanchored and it was on. The group held one to two on for the next hour and a half, boating 15 keepers to 34 lbs and several blues, only keeping their limit and releasing the rest.
The afternoon charter of Dan Fornal saw different results. Started where we left off with a screaming out going tide. The group boated 3 keepers to 24 lbs while missing several bites. A quick move put another 3 keepers in the boat and several blues. May 29: Had the Tom Fernacola charter out this morning. Despite goood conditions and good readings, the charter managed to land 2 keeper bass to 18 lbs.
This afternoon was a different stroy for our open baot trip. Setting up in the same area and similar readings, the group landed their limit of 8 bass plus 3 bonus fish while releasing another 2 fish to 25 lbs. The fishing was non stop the last hour and a half of the tide with multiple hook ups. A few bluefish were mixed into the catch to help keep the rods bent. May 28: Had the Mark Kulick charter out this morning. We were able to make bait quick and got set up on the grounds. Got the fish started and the charter picked away all day limiting out and releasing another 2 fish to 30 lbs.
This afternoons open boat saw a little slower fishing as it was a picky bite. The crew managed to land 7 keeper bass to 28 lbs and a few blues. May 27: Had the Bob Milkovitz charter out this morning for some bass fishing. Went to where we left them yesterday and it was on as soon as the baits hit the water. On the first drift the charter went 4 for 10. We ran out of bait and had to go reload. Once back on the grounds we picked away the rest of the day missing alot of fish. The crew ended with 7 bass to 29 lbs. May 26: Had the Andy Compton charter aboard this morning. We made bait quickly and took off down the beach. Got to the grounds and had three run offs right away. Thought we would be in, but it was not the case. Got a call that the bite was on up north, so we made the 20 mile ride and as soon as we arrived it was on. Multiple hook ups on every drift. The charter limited out with 10 bass to 34 lbs while releasing another 2. May 24: Had the Russ Kudile charter out this morning. With the weather this morning deceided to anchor up on Romer Shoal and crack clams. Turned out being a good decesion as the charter limited out with bass to 20 lbs and also filled all bonus tags. May 23: With the weather forecast and fog, the Rocky Ruggerrio charter clammed bass throughout the trip to 22 pounds.
May 22: Had the Bob Milkovitz charter out this morning. Stopping on the grounds we had several bites on live bunkers on the surface, but could not connect. After several attempts, we found some readings and set up on the anchor. The charter wound up landing 3 keepers to 20 lbs on the chunk.
The afternoon charter of Tom Volgelsong and his brothers saw completely different action. Running down the beach and on the grounds, drifting bunker schools produced a limit of 10 bass to 38 lbs on live bunker. All fish were released execpt one of the smaller ones for the table.
May 20: On a crew trip, we made our way down the beach. First two drifts produced one keeper bass and several run offs. Made a move a little further south and found what we were looking for. Two drifts produced our limit of 10 bass to 34 lbs while releasing another another 5 fish both on live bait and on plugs. The crew had enough and we returned early to the dock. May 17: Ran down the beach with the Dennis Stagnaro charter aboard this afternoon. Arriving at the grounds we had fish swimming all over the surface. Drifting live bunker, the charter was able to limit out with bass ranging from 18 to 44 lbs. All fish were released except two of the smaller ones for the table.
May 16: Had the Tennis Houston charter aboard this morning. Ran down the beach to where we had the fish the day before. Found a small patch of birds right away and was able to double up on the troll pulling spoons. Though we were going to be set for the day, but that was not the case. All the boat traffic scattered the fish and we were only able to pick 2 keepers and some blues throughout the day. Ended with 4 keeper bass to 18 lbs. May 15: With the hard northwest wind this morning deceided to head down the beach with our open boat trip. It was the right decision as we were able to land 5 bass right away on live bunker to 27 lbs. Once the crowd formed, we put out the spoons and picked away at fish to 23 lbs filling our limit plus bonus tags. This afternoon we had out theTom Nastasi charter. We headed right to where we left them this morning to find scattered readings. Trolling spoons produced 6 keeper bass to 18 lbs along with a few bluefish.
May 14: Started the day drifting live bunkers. On the first drift thought we would be set for the day after landing a 15 lb bass and a 38 lbs bass. Next two drifts didnt produce anything so we went on the troll. Trolling spoons produced 2 more keepers to 20 lbs and some blues. We were able to bait one more keeper later in the day, but over all it was a tough morning. May 11: Had the Leon deLeon charter out this morning. Made bait easily and headed out to the grounds. Drifting chunks and live lining produced a pick of bass with 4 keepers to 19 lbs along with a mess of bluefish to 10 lbs. May 7: The Ed Kachinski charter was aboard this morning and what a difference a day makes. Made it down the beach to find little life and only had a few run offs. Tracked back up to the bay and was able to land 5 keeper bass to 21 lbs along with a mess of bluefish. May 6: Had the Andy Compton charter out this morning. Morning started out rough trying to get bait and get down the beach. By days end we were able to only manage two stripers to 23 lbs on chunks and live bunker. May 2: Had the Vance Valente charter out this morning. Unfortunately the fishing was not so good today as the party only boated 2 keeper bass and numerous bluefish. The biggest bass weighed 19 lbs. May 1: Ran out to the grounds and once set up on the anchor ,we had a steady pick of bass all morning. The 4 man crew boated 15 bass only keeping their limit of 8 bass to 25 lbs on chunked bunker. Bluefish to 12 lbs kept things interesting throughout the morning. April 30: Had the Keith Eickhorst charter out this afternoon for some striper fishing. Once set up on the anchor it didnt take long to get them started. The charter limited out with 10 fish to 21 lbs on chunked bunker, releasing another 6 bass, as well as many bluefish. April 24: Ran an open boat trip this morning. After getting our bait, we set up on anchor and were able to get the bass started right away. We had a pick of fish all morning and ended up with a limit of 10 keeper bass to 20 pounds releasing another 4 bass along with some bluefish.
April 23: Ran our open boat this morning and was able to make bait fast. Set up on the anchor and began chunking. Less than ideal conditions produced a slow pick of bass and blues with 4 keeper bass to 19 lbs coming over the rail. This afternoon we had out the Mike Garino charter. A brief attempt at chunking was uneventful. Trolling stretches produced a limit of bass to 14 lbs. April 21: We were able to make bait very easily this morning and decided to head into the bay looking for some fish to bunker chunk. Once set up on the anchor, it only took several minutes to get them going. The boat tallied 15 keeper bass to 24 lbs and one short with 7 of the fish over 20 lbs. All the fish but one were released as they were all ready to spawn. April 18: With the hard west wind deceided to run down the beach yesterday and it paid off. Found the gannets and wide spread area of fish. Diamond jigs and plugs produced 11 keeper bass up to 18 lbs along with multiple shorts. April 14; Headed out this morning and we were able to net some bunker. Ran to the back and set up on the chunk. Had a steady pickall morning boating 14 keeper bass with two going 20 pounds and a few in the high teens. Released another 5 shorts. All fish released to fight another day.
April 13: Ran down the beach this morning. Jigging and trolling stretches produced a limit of 10 bass to 18 pounds while releasing another 5 keepers and 40 shorts. Jigging at some point produced up to 5 bass on at a time. This was spring fishing at its best.
